Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. What documents do I need to rent a car with Tarec Car Rental Uganda?
To rent a vehicle, you need a valid driving license (held for at least 2 years) and a valid passport or national ID. If your domestic driving license is not in English, we highly recommend obtaining an International Driving Permit (IDP) before your trip.
2. Is insurance included in the rental price?
Yes, all our rentals come with Comprehensive Insurance coverage. This covers third-party damage, fire, and theft. However, please note that insurance does not cover negligence, driving under the influence, or damage caused by off-road driving in unauthorized areas. You can reach out to us at info@tareccarrentaluganda.com for a full breakdown of our policy.
3. Can I cross international borders with a Tarec rental car?
Yes, you can drive our vehicles into neighboring East African countries (such as Kenya, Rwanda, and Tanzania). However, this requires prior arrangement. We will need to prepare a COMESA yellow card (cross-border insurance) and authorization documentation. Additional fees apply, so please notify us at +1 (602) 727-3006 well in advance.
4. Do you offer self-drive rentals, or does it come with a driver?
We offer both options! You can choose a self-drive safari adventure if you prefer total flexibility, or you can hire one of our professional, professional safari guides/drivers who know Uganda’s terrain and wildlife tracks inside out.
5. What happens if the vehicle breaks down or I get a flat tire?
We meticulously service all our vehicles before they leave the depot. However, if you experience any mechanical issues, Tarec Car Rental Uganda provides 24/7 roadside assistance. For minor issues like flat tires, all cars are equipped with a spare wheel and changing tools. For major issues, call our emergency line immediately at +1 (602) 727-3006, and we will coordinate a repair or dispatch a replacement vehicle.
6. What is your fuel policy?
We operate on a same-to-same fuel policy. Your rental car will be delivered to you with a specific level of fuel (often a full tank), and we ask that you return it with the exact same level.
7. Are there mileage limits on the vehicles?
No! All our car rentals come with unlimited mileage. You are free to explore Uganda—from the source of the Nile in Jinja to the deep forests of Bwindi—without worrying about extra per-kilometer charges.
8. What type of vehicle do I need for a safari in Uganda?
While the main highways in Uganda are well-paved, the roads leading inside national parks and remote areas can be rough, muddy, and uneven. We strictly recommend a 4×4 vehicle (such as a Toyota RAV4 for lighter trips, or a Land Cruiser/Safari Van for heavier terrain) to ensure a safe and smooth journey.
9. How do I pay for my car rental, and is a deposit required?
We accept bank transfers, secure online card payments, and cash upon delivery (USD, Euros, or UGX). A commitment deposit is required to secure your booking, with the balance paid upon vehicle delivery. For current rates and payment links, drop us an email at info@tareccarrentaluganda.com.
10. What is your cancellation policy?
We understand that travel plans can change. Cancellations made 14 days or more before your scheduled pickup date receive a full refund of your deposit. Cancellations made within 14 days may incur a cancellation fee. Please contact our team directly to discuss amendments or cancellations.
